If anyone can help i have a customer who has a Starplus STS and they are asking me to help them with a problem. They keep dropping calls during the middle of the phone call, is this a problem with the system or the service provider? And second they cannot access voicemail boxes that they could access 2 days ago. If you can help i would appreciate it.

Thanks
Shawn

Is it randomly dropping on different phones ? One phone in general ? One line ? All lines ? If it is one line then you should switch with another line and see if it follows the actual line or the co port on the system. The voice mail sounds like user error. When you say "access mailbox's" do you mean by pressing the vm button, remotely accessing, or something else ? Could they e forgetting the password ? At what point does the "access" fail ? We could answer your question with more details.

I would go into the voicemail system as an administrator and check the configurations in the mailboxes in question. When a user does there own programming in the mailbox they often enable or disable features for that mailbox not really knowing what they are doing. Just a thought...

I am getting a similur problem.

I have a Vodavi Starplus 7000 DHS not DHS-E system. This problem just started about a week ago and nothing has changed with the amount of people or the CO lines or stations.

I have a sales force team of about 11 people with 9 CO Lines. The problem seems to occur around the same time of day now about 2 pm.

It seems to happen when 4-6 lines are in use.

We can tell when the system is about to fail. The warning sign is that when we get an incomming call you try to answer it, it doesn't anwer/pickup the incomming call.

Then all the calls that people are on get dropped and the sytem is down for about 3 seconds and comes back up.

I did a test on the system by pushing the CO Lines in Order, backwords and every which way and one line the one I started with wouldn't work anymore for about 5 min then it would work again.

Do you have an options card in the system? It can cause this problem.

That system is notorious for such behavior when the memory retention battery is failing. It's weak enough for the database to be slightly corrupt but not so dead that all programming gets lost. Vodavi's newer systems won't function with a dead memory battery. Since your system is easily 10+ years old, it's probably time for a battery replacement. It's not a field-replaceable battery, but you might be able to find someone willing to try it.

Otherwise, the system would need to be sent to a repair facility. Of course, this would mean no phones for quite a while, so I doubt that will be an option.

The DHS is a pain. I installed lots of em and grew to hate every one of them. It isn't an LG system like other Vodavi products. I wouldn't think replacing the battery would be any harder than replacing a Triad-s battery. Just wiggle the old one off the motherboard and solder a new one on. The STS that is dropping the calls...make sure the CID module on the mainboard is nice and snug, if not you will get crosstalk and or dropped calls.

I have two units with the exact same configuration. I replaced one with the other and that one experiences the problem more than the other so could the batteries still be the problem.
