I have a customer that has 3 sites connected with XTSc's through voip. Each and every site had the problem where they would come in and have the "DX-Scout" on the displays and nothing worked. It seemed to always be just after the 5 year warranty expired. Initialization wouldn't work. Only sending it off to Aztec would do the trick. Yesterday I had another XTSc customer that the same thing happened to, and it was just out of warranty. It almost seems that there is something in the manufacturing code of the KSU causing this to repeatedly happen. Has anyone else ever had this issue? Should telephone manufacturers have to "recall" units like Toyota does when cars have issues? I'm sure no one from the manufacturer would ever admit it, but it sure seems awfully curious.

The reason that they discontinued the XTSc was because it was discovered that there was a component of the power supply that was likely to fail and it was too expensive to keep making it. Yes, they are dropping like flies. I've had three fail within the past month.

I had two failures last year. They were were installed 5 years ago as a networked system and the serial numbers were sequential.
I was not able to find a trace of any replacement. The power supply consists of the transformer and the rest of the components are completely visible on the lower left corner of the motherboard. Both motherboards came back from Aztec looking completely pristine. I was left scratching my head.

I had six fail....Aztec told me it is cuased by a leaky cap and that system seems to be suffering from a lot of them.

Well, if it's a leaky cap, which one is it? I can buy that "expensive" component for a lot less than shipping the dang thing across the country!

Just got word that we lost another one today. That now makes four within a month. I can't believe that the manufacturer isn't doing anything about this to be proactive for their dealers. Of course, my only spare is out for repair at Aztec.

If it is such an obvious problem, then why can't Vertical be held responsible for repair costs, even if it is after the warranty has expired? Vertical should hold the manufacturer of the defective part responsible and have them send out replacements at no charge. I just sent out my last spare to replace the defective unit, and I am very nervous that if I have another one go out in the next couple of weeks...What to do? Can I sell them an XTS as a replacement? Not with good conscience. I'm not yet certified on the MBX which I doubt would work with voip connection to the other XTSc's... Not happy !

Don, I lucked out and got one back from repair (no charge) today just as I heard of another one failing. I'm not sure if they are fixing them for free outside of the original warranty period though. I am also very nervous about not having one on hand, but Aztec's turn around time for the last one was only about a week.
You are correct about the MBX not networking with XTS/XTSc systems yet, but I was told this week by Vertical that this ability should be available late in the second quarter of this year.

I have had one just fail at a customer site. Will a Vodavi XTS KSU 3000 Cabinet work as a replacement?
