We've replaced our VMS card 3 times in the last two years and now in the last couple of weeks, we were losing the voicemail card again.
The voicemail will stay up for an hour or two...the drive stops (which is fine because it mounts perfectly in a PC and shows no errors), and during this time a system reset would bring the system back (BCLR light would eventually turn green). Then it was dead for 5 days and nothing (not even a defrag, all the utils, vodoo dolls) would bring it back to life.
This morning, in a fit of desperation I reseat all of the cards (and the ram, which I have done before), defrag the datbase, database, etc., and it's been running all day.
Any suggestions other than replacement???

When you get one like that it's a bummer.
A couple of things. 1. Is MB 1-8-11 system refresh timer turned on. If so turn off. 2. Is OS Surrender in the mail turned on daily.?? Line 57 of page 6 in Easymade Applications. I usually set this to monthly, day 15 at 04:00am 3. The jury is still out on this one with the new VMS. Line 58 Startup is there an entry after CNG "^# F0" This helped on the old FMS mails..
My personal opnion is that the existing DOS based mail has had it's day as the sotware was designed in the late 1980s and needs a new OS/look AD64 port in maybe..
If any one else has any ideas pleaze suggest..
Regards,
Paul W Now back to a 0 day week. Love these 7 day weekends.

like paul said.
i'd turn the 1-8-11 to non (nec has mixed feelings about this. some say it shuts down the vm wrong, some say it doesn't when it reboots the system) & i'd also turn off the os surrender for a while to see if that is causing the problem (been known to sometimes).

Also will check on when I get back in the ofice. Thank you. Q: Do these same issues apply on the next/solid state version of the system (I have the original/hard disk version but am curious. Thank you, -doug <font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by chrislebeck: like paul said.

There are several known issues with these hard drives on the VMS Did you set dipswitches 2 and 4 on and bring the vm in maint mode then try a database repair I have seen this help. If you have already tried this than nore than likely you have a bad hard drive I have had to replace many!! The new VMP and CTI are much better. Oh yes! what slot is the vm card in the system I have also ran into problems with these when they are in any slot except slot 8 of the ksu.
