Hello,

Is there a way to use custom ringing (where you have multiple numbers ringing the same line) in the DSX to route to a specific auto attendant.

The issue I have is that a client runs multiple businesses and wants a different auto attendant for each number. I thought custom ringing (as Qwest calls it) aka distinctive ringing would be the closest way to get a DID like feature on a DSX-40.

Also, is there a way to get SIP trunking on the version 3 firmware? I would personally rather have SIP trunking then SIP phones.

Thanks!

You can assign trunks to different answering tables and route the calls to the phones in that company.

Keep in mind there is no way to keep a caller after being routed to the correct company greeting from one way or another ending up in one of the other company's greeting mailbox.

The DSX does not recognize the distinctive ring service. You could possibly install a distinctive ring controller (Multi-Link,The Stick, etc) on the line with the distinctive ring service and have one output port feed one DSX trunk and another output port feed a second DSX trunk. That way you could control the call handling for each "trunk" separately. However, I would remove one of the trunks from the line groups so that two users would not select the same line as part of their prime line preference. Most distinctive ring controllers can be configured to block two ports from selecting the same line and return a busy signal should someone try to access a port while the other port is busy.
This is not a solution I would want to use, but it does answer your question. One of these devices is best served for a user that only has one line and wants to share it between their phone and fax.

It looks like a better solution would be to wait for SIP trunking. Does anyone know if this is even being considered?

I think NEC would sell these like crazy if they allowed for SIP trunking as it would price it well below a Asterisk VOIP setup and is easier to maintain.

Yes, you could make any PBX a VOIP PBX with a ATA, but then you would not get DID functionality like is required in this application.

Does the DSX-80 with a DS1 card support DID as needed in this application? I could get a VOIP to DS1 IAD.

Thanks for your help. Do you know when it may be released?

Out of curiosity, I am assuming the software is developed in Conneticuit. Where is the support located? What is the Texas location I see on the documentation do?

Where is the hardware engineered? Im used to Siemens and Avaya and the hardware looks really oriental, so I am assuming that the hardware is Japanese.

Its refreshing to see how helpful NEC technicians and NEC themselves are. Thanks!

Sorry, we don't provide release dates for unannounced features.

All DSX development and support is located in Shelton CT. Our headquarters is in Irving Texas.

I designed the phone with the assistance of our mechanical design team in Japan. We think it's a very attractive design and our customers have responded favorably.

I talked with NEC reps in Orlando last month and they are only releasing VoIP sets (remote IP stations) on the DSX VoIP card. They are not coming out with SIP or networking. Straight from the horses mouth.

I'm not sure what horse you spoke with, but this release supports DSX IP phones and standard SIP phones. SIP trunking will be available later this year. Support for networking will depend on demand, which at this point is not very high.
