NEC Elite 48; 4 port VM. The system is 9 yrs old; all original; works great. My concern is the hard drive will fail eventually. Should I clone and replace the hard drive now? Will that work? I am afraid that when the hard drive dies, I will end up with a large repair bill. Would be great to have a plug and play backup. Other ideas? I do have Cossesion on CD.

9 years old? Well you're already 4 years past where a drive should have failed.

You need the BRU utility, should have come on a floppy with co-sesseions.
I just did a backup/drive replacement yesterday on a system with about 50 mailboxes and it took about 3 hours.

D What is the BRU utility? I know so little about these systems. (I have replaced HD on a laptop) Can you give step by step instructions on what to do? I want to retain all current settings and VM boxes and messages. Many thanks in advance!

Bru is Backup Software, if your not an NEC Tech, working on your Voice Mail Card and Telephone System is Not Advisable. You May want to Consider Calling a Tech to work on your System. :thumb:

I have a customer with Elite 192 and 8-port Elite mail. When I informed their IT guy that the hard drive was on it's way out (chirping and grinding noises) he said, "no problem... I'll replace it".
He "ghosted" the contents of the old hard drive onto a new one and reinstalled it onto the KTU. It's working nicely with only 4 ports instead of the original 8. He could not duplicate the "Activation Code" to open up the second set of 4 ports.
Not being a computer geek, I have no idea what "ghosting" entails, but he is happy with his results.
My thoughts: "Do it at your own risk".

My thoughts: "Do it at your own risk". Since I only have 4 ports active (and not 8), I presume I don't have to worry about an activation code and would still have 4 ports after a cloning/ghosting?
