Does any of you wizards know how to get spambayes to work on a Dell with XP SP2 and Norton anti virus 2003 ?
After I load it, it's supposed to go to a set up screen when I open Outlook but it doesn't and it's supposed to add stuff to the tool bar and it doesn't. There must be something in the SP2 firewall, Norton or security setting that won't let it fly.

Mark, try disabling Norton first. I have a friend that had to completely remove Norton before he could get the anti-spam software to work. Then he reloaded Norton and both worked.

I tried to load it with norton disabled, that didn't work. I don't have the norton software to reload if I dump it, I bought it on line (2 years ago) and didn't save the download, I just keep re-newing it on line when it's due. What if I start up in safe mode and load the spambaye, is that safe?

You are able to go back to Nortons and provide the credit card that you used to download it, and they will let you redownload it. I have done that in the past when my computer had died. you may also disable it from loading when windows loads, and reboot and try to install the software.

OK. Seems like the consenses is it's Norton causing this program not to load correctly.
I thought it was more likely the SP2 on XP.

could be both. Have you tried an alternate program to spambays?

Mark, before you remove Norton check your task manager and see if some of norton's stuff is still resident in memory. If there is a module resident in memory, then select it and click on "end task" to remove the program from memory.
Common sense would tell us we shouldn't have to remove the program to install something else, but a lot of things in computers don't follow common sense!

I just run Adware and Spybot. I use a company to host my web sites and email that provides some very good spam filtering, which I can adjust as needed. The advantage to catching it before it gets to you is they get a rejected email, not just a message to you that gets put in the trash.

I run those regularly also, but once your address is out there it's too late and the junk just multiplies. I use the email provided by the family server which allows me to have my name as my email address, which is nice but it has no filtering.
