Running out of numbers sounds like Y2K all over again! Didn't anyone learn any lesson there?

As the old saying goes (more or less); "Those who fail to remember history are doomed to repeat it."

When I was young, I was Liberal. As I aged and wised up, I became Conservative. Now that I'm old, I have settled on Curmudgeon.

I'd hook up to IPv6 if any of my providers would hand it off to me. So far I'm told to just hurry up and wait.

Seems just like another way of getting customers to "upgrade" to newer equipment by saying this. I know there is much truth to the internet being "full", my take is Al Gore really didn't think this Internet thing out properly when he was designing it. smile

I would have to do a switch upgrade at this point to natively support IPv6. Everything else is a matter of software upgrade.

The hardware costs to replace my core and 8 access switches would be somewhere in the $30K price-tag for new. That's not even counting the man hours to do the actual IPv6 migration.

So at this point, I'm going to be holding out, hoping that ProCurve releases a firmware update to IPv6. When actual IPv6 gets delivered to me then I'll start worrying.
