Who uses what to test Cat 5, Cat 5e, Cat 6 and fiber out there? We are going to be getting one in the future and need to figure out which would be the best one. I've been looking at the Fluke 4000 series testers. Anyone use Wavetek?

For basic testing, we use a STM-8 from the Siemon company. Somewhat low end, but it has a variety of functions.

For clients that pay extra for the service -- we use a penta scanner, which I believe fluke bought the company that used to make the penta scanner.

The omni scanner from fluke is basically the newest one in that series.

The 4000DSP model is fairly nice, I don't know too much about it.

For a cheaper solution, that's close to the STM-8 but has more functionality -- I like the Fluke Microscanner. It has TDR in it, so you can get distance to fault readings, which are helpful... and it has a few extra tricks up its sleeve.

If you want the ultimate, that is the quickest and gives you the most info... go with either the newer fluke series testers, or my personal favorite: Agilent's WireScope 350.

Has fiber and copper testing capability.

It has the most tests, the most graphical and ease of use, and also gives you the most feedback out of any of them.

I've researched the device a lot -- they're out of control, way cool.

Check it out here:

That link might not work, so try www.agilent.com if not and search for the WireScope350.

we use the omni scanners and they work great. with all of the toys they get a little expensive. the microscanner pro is a good low one though. we also have some of the test-um data testers and they actually work pretty well and are affordable. it just depends on the type of test you're after.

I agree with AvayaNovice--the Wirescope 350 is my personal favorite, too. Lately I've been seeing a lot about the Framescope 350. Aybody have any experience with that one?

The framescope uses the same basic infastructure as the wirescope, but with obviously a different use.

I like all of Agilent's products, they seem to be very innovative.

Fluke's products are mostly other company's products -- just with the fluke name on them.

Fluke bought CTC, and a couple of other testing companies.

Does anyone have any experience with the CTC 9925XB or BLT?
