This is an Impact 1632 system:

When person X is on a call on a 8024 set (24 button w/ display) and person y who is on a 8112 (12-button no display) or 8101 (single-line) dials person X's extension, the "SOHVA" function automatically kicks in and sends a series of tones to person X's ear. Person X doesn't want those tones, so I disabled SOHVA for person X's extension.

However, now in the same situation as above, person y's call rings on person X's intercom and continues ringing, even though X is on the line with someone else.

Is there some way to make sure that if X is on the phone, Y will get a busy signal (aside from Voice Announce Block, which would prohibit all pages from being made over X's phone)? The interesting thing is that if Y is on a display phone, he will get a busy signal, but from the 8112 or 8101, SOHVA kicks in.

Let me know if I need to explain this differently. I realize it may be confusing. Thanks.

The way things are happening are correct, the only thing that might not be set correctly is the coverage on the phone. Make in Station COS you have Automatic Busy/RNA Call Forwarding set up. When these are set up the caller x should get a soft ring on the phone before going to voicemail coverage.

If I set his extension to forward to VM on busy/RNA, the caller will get the main VM greeting and not the individual box of that station. Is there some way to do this so the caller gets, for instance, box 16 on busy rather than the main VM greeting? Thanks.

What type of voicemail system is attached to your phone system? This maybe something fixable.

On your voicemail, you will have to stop voicemail functions and get to the C: prompt. Go to the VM directory and type edit trans.txt. C:\vm\edit trans.txt

There will be some lines of translation in this box. One of lines should read like this 9xx2=xx*,* and xx*=xx*,*. I am going to assume these lines are in the file. The only problem might be that the number of x's should match the extension number length. So if you have 3 digit extensions add and extra x into each line of text so it will read correctly. I hope this helps.

What you really need to do is disable SOHVA for the extensions that do not have an LCD display, since that cannot see if person X is on the phone or not. Person X can be given SOHVA capabilities since that person can see if the person is busy or not. I would disable SOHVA for all non-display phones.

Use the SOHVA groups setup to determine who may and who may not initiate a SOHVA call and conversley who may or may not recieve one.
