We have and old DXP Plus running 11b on the shelf that we wanted to upgrade to 17d. Turned it on and everything came up fine - green lights on the CPU and SRV and was able to log in no problem. I downloaded the 15c bin from vertical, used labelbin to serialize it, then connected to the DXP and started the system software upgrade. Once the status bar was almost to the end, I encountered a pop up stating that there had been a communications error. Upon clicking "Ok", VMMI disconnected, and I haven't been able to log in since. The services board is stuck in the out of service position with a red light.
I've rebooted the system, and, after calling King Tech., shorted the capacitors on the software board on their advice. Still co change.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

bgorton,
I would use hyper terminal to try and log in for diagnostic purposes. Use same parameters as VMMI.
To begin with you will know immediately if you can connect. Space bar twice and you should get DXP splash.

You most likely have an old version of DXPCPU-pls, DXRAM-pls and/or DXSRV-pls. You can't just go to the lastest version. Version 15C was a rock-solid level of software for the DXP/DXP-plus. What purpose do you have for wanting 17d?

We want to use it as a backup for an existing DXP Plus that is running a version of 17 already. At this point, I'd be happy with getting the system to 15C, which is what I'm trying to do now and am running into the issue of getting nearly to the end of the upload of the serialized 15C (480) software and getting the comm error I mentioned above.
The cpu board is a PLS4. Should I be able to upgrade from 11B to 15C using that, or do I need a PLS6?

PLS4 is a memory board mounted on the CPU and it is for the 480 version. The revision numbers of the DXCPU-pls, DXSRV-pls and the PLS4 are what's important to know before you can upgrade. I don't remember the versions required for 15C at this time but I do know the versions at the time of 11B software will not work with 13 and above.
If that DXP-pls is all original your out of luck without a hardware upgrade.
