Am I missing something in the configuration of a prostar 816 plus system with a starmail attached with regards to DND and Toll restriction?
I have set up everthing I can see to have my office capabile of dialing out of the office and/or long distance during the day and then with the attendents system on DND (night mode) a required password is needed to call outside the office extensions except for the 5 entries in mmc #94. This all works great.
My question is what stops a cleaning crew member from just pressing the DND on the attendents system at night - putting the system back into day mode - and then making calls at their leisure? Is that a way to program day night mode for the 816 without the use of the attendents DND?
Thanks for any help. Les

Unplug the attendant phone and lock it in a drawer, not that most of them would know which button to push.
Test to make sure they can't do a dial around by dialing 10288 (10XXX where x=any digit) or a *67 then dialing.

My concern is not so much that they can do a dial around as it is that they simply press the flashing dnd button and they are back in unrestricted day mode.

Then lock the phone up or remove it at night as Bunnie suggested.
Or have your vendor come in and put switches on your lines and cut them off @ night or switches with keys .Caution on the nightmare when the person that puts the lines back goes on vacation or sick.>

OK thank you.
I guess the best option for me is to put long distance block on day and night as in dialing a number starting with 1 and jsut enter a passcode on all long distance calls.
I did not know I could remove the phone and still have the DND apply. Can I also unplug the line at the key system?

Keep in mind that if you disable lines that they can not call 911 if needed.

Richey is right, they have to be able to dial 911 but that one phone can be locked in a drawer and they can use the other phones to dial 911.

Or you could spend the money on a newer Samsung phone system and save yourself some headaches. The newer products have much more flexible class of services and switching the day/night mode is password protected.

The only problem with benb suggestion to upgrade them is that most of these people have a system that they bought for very little and it has lasted for years and everything can still be fixed and they love to keep it running.
He is correct that this is the time to upgrade/remove the 816s, but it is a harder sale than people who call from the phone book and buy something. I don't ever want to have a two pair polarity specific phone system again. The StarMail is the biggest reason to dump it.
I'm told a cherry bomb going off in the ksu while you are servicing it tends to be effective in promoting a digital sale.
