Greetings,
System Specs:
2 x iDCS100 with MGI cards 2 x (A)DSL lines (1024) dedicated for voice
From what I gather I need to create a VPN between the two systems (dynamic IP). Since cost is an issue I need to do it as cheap as possible, without compromising the quality.
The client is planning an aggressive expansion in the near future opening at least 5 more sites in about 6 months and they all need to be connected to the voice network.
Can anyone suggest the correct equipment for the roll out and possibly help me with the configuration.
Life's a ball, just gotta roll with it!

How many phones are you deploying per node? How many concurrent network calls are you expecting? Centralized VM or each will have its own?

The one side (satellite ofc) has 8 digital phones and head office has 24 phones (22 digital and 2 analogue). At this stage I don't think there will be more than maybe 2-3 concurrent calls at any given moment, but that could change in the future.
The main purpose of the link is that the HQ is able to dial an extension at the satellite ofc instead of a full number.

I have a company with a very simular setup to the one you're looking into. Main office has about 16 digital and 4 analogue with SVMi-4 & MGI using an OS100. Remote office has about 6 digital and 2 analogue with MGI using an OS100. Remote site uses SVMi-4 in main office. ADSL links both sites and is used for voice only. Sites are about 250km apart. Works well. When remote office night switches all calls go over link to main office. 2 things I have learnt from all this is that, not all routers are created equal and best to use same ISP for ADSL connection.

A VPN Tunnel is good, but you don't have to use one. You can network the two sites via public IP.

Yah should be fine. VPN or Public. VPN has a higher overhead on packet size, but 1024 down should be fine as long as your up speed isnt too low. Just depends on bandwidth quality.

No not really as long as it routes. Ive had some issues with some low end linksys routers, but thats just the really cheap bottom of the line ones.

Cisco 857 are a good entry level router.
Weve messed with some cheaper routers and always ended up replacing them. The cheaper routers tend to lock up more often resulting in the customer having to power cycle them to get the service going again.
We also started off doing dedicated ADSL's for VOIP. We have been running them over the same DSL's as the data recently with pretty good results. It may be a good idea to have a dedicated DSL at the main site if it is going to be busy.
My advice would be to get them networked over their exisitng data VPN and see how they go. In a lot of cases the intersite calling is a nice feature to have but dosent really get used too intensively.
If you want to start forwarding large volumes of customer calls over the network thats a differnt story.
