Does anyone know of an SMTP account that I can test the V-Mail to E-Mail gateway with? I heard that Samsung has one but I don't want to use one of my credits to ask a stupid question! I've set these up with Exchange & GroupWise accounts with no problem in the past. This particular customer is using a Lotus Notes server and for some reason we can not seem to get the messages to go out. I keep getting a reply code of 501 which is a generic for 'syntax error' I believe. They have SMTP accounts for their Xerox machines and they work fine. We have tried using the Xerox accounts and still won't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There are SMTP server programs that you can load on a PC as a test or as a permanent solution. No one else is going to leave an open SMTP on the web, it's a great way to get blacklisted.

If you are seeing a 501, it has to do with authentication. In the VM, did you enter something for the Domain field?

I used Sleepwalker SMTP proxy, a freeware product I found scouring the net, intalled it on a PC on their network that was always running and used it to bounce them off. Thats before the latest software came out and fixed the problem.
That said (fixed that is) most times all I require in the Email Gateway tab of the mclass, is the ISP's SMTP server IP address in the host ID field, and a valid domain name in the domain field.
Then in the mail boxes under the email gateway tab I put the email address I am sending it to in both the to and the from fields.
Most of the time this is fine, however, if I start getting the 501 errors or spamprevention replies, I stick my email address in the reply to field of the Email Gateway tab of System Parameters and that sorts it.
Strangely, it is usually always on the same ISP, and sometimes it works fine, other times it needs the extra stuff.

My understanding is Samsung will be doing away with the whole "credit" thing, after alot of vendors started complaining. I have also had that problem when trying to authenicate on a telco's smtp server. I had to do a reverse dns and put that in the domain field and that solved my problem.

Thanks for all the input! SeaComms got it exactly right! Apparently Lotus Notes does not like us trying to log in under a specific account! I set it up like you suggested and it works (I tried this with our exchange server as well and it worked). Thanks again for all your help!
