Unrelated- I have a service call on a Comdial Impact system. Comdial is a new animal to me but any work available in these parts is few and far between. Line 1 can dial out, but when a call comes in if answered on Line 1- line goes to a busy signal. Thanks to all that can help.

Put line 1 into CO port 2 and see if problem follows it. If it does, then it's a problem with you provider, if it does not follow---then there's a problem with the port.
Not knowing what kind of a system you have, you may be working with Ports that handle two lines. What kind of a system do you have??

Sorry I will try to be more specific in the future- the system is DX-80. I think each port has 2 CO lines. Sounds like ports on the DX-80 are not surge protected, If port one with two CO's goes kaput and originally port 1 mapped with Lines 1,2 will port 2 then "rollover?" to Lines 2,3.

If you are going to work on older DX-80 systems, you owe it to your customer to purchase a manual and possibly a small DX-80 & two phones to practice on. The DX-80 comes set up for 4 line. Each CO port on the CO card supports a line. "Rollover" ---as the old telephone gag goes are what dogs do. What your dial-tone provider does is to program the lines to hunt---usually 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 etc. The DX-80 has nothing to do with that. You seem to be somewhat confused in the terminology and the technical aspects of this system. You may need some phone support from one of the moderators in this forum. Just curious---Where did you get the idea that this was an Impact system or that you were working with Impact phones??

The Phones have Comdial IMPACT on each of them. When the line is pushed no activity is present, and when someone calls in on that line the next line in the hunt group rings. No dial tone, and cannot receive calls. I let the customer know that a bad port was the possiblity and I noticed that 4 free ports were not in use, but J10,J11,J12,J13 all are being used. Is it possible to program a free port for the line that is bad.

If they say Impact on them then you do not have a DX-80 there, but rather one of several Comdial systems including DSU, DSUII, DXP, FXT/S, FXII....likely a DSU or DSUII though...

I got my systems mixed up, thought I would keep the same threads going instead starting a new topic. This problem has a grey Comdial system box about 2ft long and 1 ft wide, 4 ports on bottom right 4 on top. 4 on top right are not being used. My question was Is it possible to copy port characteristics so the free ports will use Line 1,2 in the same Hunt group. Line 2 has no dial tone.

That's a DSU II 408. Yes you can reprogram the line ports.

On the Comdial DSUII line 1 goes bad all the time. I bet it is a bad line port.
