The instruction books for the medley only spells out how to change times - how do you change the date? We have frequent power outages which cause our system to default to January 1. Anyone got any ideas?

Get a battery backup first. There is a harddrive in that system and you want to protect it.
Press Menu or F1 key
Press Park3 key
Enter password ***#
Press 9819 (to set date)
Enter date
Hankup
Good Luck!!
If all else fails, use a BFH.
