Good Evening

I'm looking for some help and direction.

The firm I work for has recently been a part of a huge Cat6A installation; the cabling portion is factory-made trunk assemblies (18 bundled cables), factory-cut, terminated and tested, then shipped to site where the contractor is laying them in overhead tray. The trunks are factory labeled to designate the location where they are to be installed.

The consultant has informed the contractor that his specification calls for labels at each end, but floating (ie, not shrunk down, so they can be turned and read from any angle.

So, we're looking for a heatshrink product that can have a label printed on it, but isn't sticky on the inside (I would think standard heatshrink, not heated down, would quite soon adhere to the cable it's seated on, making it hard to impossible to rotate). Oh, and the manufacturer's best case would be for it to be split, so it could be installed on the cable after the fact.

The label sits on only 1 Cat6A leg at each end, OD of the leg is approx .325 inches.

HELP!! Has anyone heard, seen, know, of such a product? Somewhere in my past I know I've seen a floating label on a piece of cable, but where, when and who by is lost in the mists of time!

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

By the way, it's a contractor at the end of the line doing this installation; way too big and complicated a job for the end client to even consider doing it themselves

Thanks in advance
Mike

I would ask the consultant for a example or manufacture. It sounds like he has something specific in mind. Then again he might just be talking about a ptouch label that is flagged.

T&B makes a small cable tie with a flag on the end. It is big enough to stick a label on it. If you don't cinch the tie up snug it will "float". I use em all the time.

Panduit makes a flag tie as well. It is a bit larger and costs a lot more.

I have one of these: https://www.bradycanada.ca/bradyid/pdpv/XPERT-ABC.html the labels are heat shrink, but do not stick over time. I've put un-shrunk labels on years ago and they still spin freely.

I have never used the Panduit Turn-Tell labels but I saw a demo of them at the ICS West show. I was very impressed. They looked real clean and pretty easy to use.

We use the Panduit Turn-Tell labels at work and i like them a lot. You are able to put them on farther down the cable and then push them to the end. That is nice when you have a cable that is already plugged in an access is limited. Also, you can then line up all of the labels at the same distance from the patch panel and make everything look nice.

...another advantage is the labels can be made ahead of time and organized. For small jobs under 96 cables we usually just use the handheld label makers.
