Hello,

I'm going to try this in ESI since that's the system we have. We have a 2 way paging horn (controller is a Valcom V9941A) in another building that is configured on all phones as a line key, CO 4. Basically, press the key and after an "attention" beep, you can hear what's going on in the other building and have what amounts to walkie-talkie type conversations (2 way, but one at a time)

It has just recently quit working. I thought it might be the wiring to the device or the device or controller itself. I did a bit of testing and I can take a homemade buttset and clip to the T&R on the 66 block RIGHT WHERE the 25 pair cable is attached from the ESI system and get a signal. I can get a signal at all the other intermediate punchdowns leading to the T&R of the Valcom controller. I just can't get any of the programmed phone buttons to get the signal. The display lights up "Line 4" as expected but no noise from either way.

I've got the ESI Installer, Admin and user manuals. Can I do some poking around in the system itself to try to figure out why it quits at the ESI? Anyone have any ideas? Like I say, I think the signal is good right up to the 25 pair cable into the ESI.

Try moving it to another working C.O. port on the system to see if it works there. If so, it's possible you have a bad C.O. port. Confirm that by putting dial tone to the 4th C.O. port.

Is the fact that it is a 2 way (talkback(?)) pager the reason that it ended up on a CO port and not on the paging port?

I've moved the talkback wire from CO 4 to CO 5 on the 66 block. I've only done "Extension Button Mapping" to get a CO 5 line on the phones to try CO 5. But when I press that newly pgm'd button I get a busy signal and no change on the display. Do I have to go through Fn 21, CO Line Pgmming to tell the system about the possibly undefined CO 5? Didn't want to get into Fn 21 & mess up other CO lines if I didn't have to.

I'm willing to take this off line with someone if that's the proper protocol. My reseller is more interested in having me attending seminars to sell "total technology solutions" rather than supporting my phone system. It's been sold & paid - why would they? And the revolving door of sales reps who have called to introduce themselves and find out a little about my company have been numerous. I decided to try to support myself when I could and mostly it's been wiring repairs but this is my first time into CO line programming.

If anyone can step in and advise the board's preferred method. I have read some threads outlining board policy and want to take care of someone willing to help. Finding a new local ESI reseller/servicer would be ideal but I'm willing to get remote help too.

Did you try to put some dialtone on CO 4 , that will tell you if the CO port is bad.Yes you will need to get in F 21 , and put the line in a dial group "9", then you should be good

I just put a dial tone to the CO 4 port and I get the same thing at a handset - it thinks it's on CO 4, displays Line 4 but is mute. So does that point directly to the CO port being bad? Is something like that repairable?

I'll proceed with Fn 21 programming.

Check your pinouts. The C-class is different than both the S and the E-class. Lines 4, 5 and 6 are on the second 25 pair. Or maybe you have a bad expansion port card.

I think all is right there. CO 4, 5 and 6 are on a separate 66 block along with exts 106-111. Everything is well labeled from the original install and was working up until...

Also, added CO 5 to the 9, group and now get recognition that the programmable btton is trying to access line 5 but it's mute the same way CO 4 is.

Maybe I'll move the pager over to CO 3 on the first 25 pair cable and see if it might be the expansion card. CO 3 is used now but I can make a quickie test. Then if that works, try it back on CO 6 and if that doesn't, then may have to assume that the expansion card at least needs diagnosed by someone more qualified than me.

Put the line in group 8 and give the station access rights to group 8. You will still have issues when using redial, redial will use the highest numbered line. I actually would move the paging line to line 1 to avoid grabbing tha paging line when last number redial is used.
