Hey y'all. I just got my butt set sort of working after seeing a thread on here about replacing the 3V battery. I replaced the 3V, even added a battery socket for it so it will be easier to replace it the next time. I'm at least getting static when I put it on speaker but, when I connect to a known good jack, I don't get any dial tone. Of course I get dial tone with a regular phone. If I connect my tone generator to it, I can hear that, just not dial tone.

Are you sure that the cord set is good? Even a bad cord will allow a tone generator to get through to the speaker. Try connecting tip and ring to the cord terminals directly to test and see what happens. Cord sets are inexpensive and easy to replace.

Thanks Ed, I think I eliminated the cord set. While I had the battery cover off, I removed the cord set and connected some cross connect wire in it's place with an RJ11 jack on the other end and plugged it into a jack here at the house. Same result, hum, but no dial tone. This butt set it practically brand new. I bought it, then went to work for a company that assigned me a tool set. I figured I'd just use their butt set instead of wearing mine out. So this one has basically been sitting for 4 or 5 years until I turned their tool kit back in to them. I might have to just bite the bullet and send it in for repair.

Don't forget that there are fuses on both the tip and ring conductors, so one of them may have been blown open. The PCB traces are easy to follow to lead you to the fuses. I'll bet that one of them is open.

THESE GUYS do a good job if you are seeking a reputable repair shop.

well, I'm huntin' but I don't see anything that looks like a fuse to me. I see resistors, diodes, caps etc. I've been looking online for a schematic with no luck. If I had a schematic, I could just take it to the guy that works on my guitar amps and he could probably fix it while I wait. If I can't figure it out by Monday, I reckon I'll send it in......
