1. You broke the wire when you opened the box.
2. The calling party hears ringing from their end, not the called end.
3. Often, on certain electronic CO's, a ring trip will (incorrectly) return re-order to the calling party.
4. A corroded open will heal itself, and then fuse open when ringing is applied. This also happens to high-resistant grounds ("escapes")
