Hi All - I have been working on Executone IDS products since they came to Canada many years ago. Recently I heard from a client that a competitor stated they could backup an ACPU with version 3.0 to a PC and then restore it to another blank 3.0 ACPU and have all of the software options (AACD, VMS, etc) move with the download to the new ACPU. This sounds too good to be true, but since I have no experience with 3.0 (all of my clients still have 2.51 or earlier) I have to consider the possibility.
Could someone please decisively confirm or deny this rumor for me. Thanks in advance.

There was once a way to backup(copy) a cpu to another cpu, but , You didn't use a PC to do it, You needed another cabinet, actually, you needed to have at least a 432 system(2 228 cabinets)

I think they changed all that when they got into Y2K software though.

I haven't worked directly with the IDS system in over 5 years, maybe somebody else on this board can give you a better answer...

thanks nonameyet, indeed it did work with the ECPU in the 432 port configuation. The ECPU in the second cabinet was a complete replica of the ECPU in the first cabinet and the options as well as system data was present in both.
With the advent of the ACPU they changed it so that the options were held ONLY in the ACPU in the first cabinet and if it failed, the ACPU in the second cabinet was of no use as it only held the system programming and NONE of the options.
As my original post states, the claim was that someone could actually download/restore an IDS 3.0 system to a blank ACPU and have the options migrate with it.
I do not believe that it is possible, but i am hoping that someone can prove me wrong

I don't know about ACPU software versions but in the old 42,84,108, 228,432 cpu versions it was possible to turn on the downloadable features if you knew what you were doing.
I've just never seen it done on an ACPU.

I believe the ACPU 8.0 software release was the last CPU you could copy system options. Executone quickly released 8.02 to “fix” that problem.
