I am trying to do call transfers through my telephone company. I have been using the Flash button & calling the # I want to transfer to, but it sets up a conference call. My phone company is telling me to hang up before the the party I am transferring to answers the phone. This is not working. I have an Inter-Tel GMX 48 phone system.

Try this: While on a call hit SPCL 330 then when you get your second dial tone make your call, when they answer see if you can then hang up and the other two parties get connected. Let us know what happens.

I tried using SPCL 330 & this is just like using the flash. I get the dial tone, dial the number, but when I hang up it disconnects the 2nd line, & my phone starts ringing back to me so that I pick up the line <font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by dtmf: Try this: While on a call hit SPCL 330 then when you get your second dial tone make your call, when they answer see if you can then hang up and the other two parties get connected. Has this ever worked , or is this a new feature you have ordered through the phone company?
Try this simple test. Call the time operator. Wait until the time operator starts giving off the time then press the flash button. Wait a few seconds and then press the flash button again. If the time operator is not there it could be two problems. 1) The phone company does not have the lines set up correctly. 2. The flash time needs to be programmed correctly in your system. If the time operator is there after pressing the flash button then its some other problem or "operator error" on your part.

Isn't the hookswitch timer set to 600ms by default on the GMX 48? That should work with the local provider unless they have some weird timing. Like RCA says it might not be set up on the lines correctly, and also see what their timing is and match it on your system.

Yes by default it is 600ms. Sometimes techs set this at a full second so the customer can just press flash to hangup and grab the same line.
By the way, the only way to change the timer in programming is through a PC connected to the system.

I tried the test & it worked as you stated. I then contacted the phone company, they checked their records & realized they had set up the conference call feature instead of the transfer call feature. I have put in request to correct. Once corrected I will test & get back to you <font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by RCA: Has this ever worked , or is this a new feature you have ordered through the phone company?
