Hello,

I am using Toshiba CTX system with the Stratagy ES & eManager software.

My question is; can I change the sound of the paging from the phones? Are there a few ring options? The reason is I have sales people that all reside in a close area. The complaint that I receive is that when someone pages one of them and they are not directly in front of their phones - they are not able to distinguish who is being paged?

Please advise...

What I have heard that seems to work, is that the person doing the paging (or intercom call) speaks the name of the person they are trying to call.

You could set them to ring (tone first) and change the ring tone.

Humm…

I can attempt to get everyone to call out the names when paging. However, you know how much resistance there is for change. Besides, the only department that has an issue with the paging system are those that sit close together.

When you mention to set their ring tone? Are we talking about the stations receiving the calls? If so, would I simply change the tone for their rings (I mean for incoming calls – would that be the same tone for paging?).

I always have a hard time with terminology.

When you "Page" someone, this is usually done thru an external paging horn like in a warehouse.
Internal paging (one way)comes thru the telephones speaker as a beep and then voice announcement, not a ring.

If you are calling an individual station, that is an intercom call and you can change the ring tone on the intercom button. This would not affect the ringing for trunk calls.

Thank you for that clarification.

I can attempt to find the answers myself but if I am using the wrong terminology – I find myself going in circles. I learned that paging came if two forms:

• Overhead paging that sounded over the horns (such as in a warehouse).
• Paging using the speaker from all the user consoles.

Let me see if I can find how the change it from individual intercoms.

Hello,

I need to follow-up on this topic. I still have my original issue of users complaining about not being able to identify “internal paging”. Unfortunately, I cannot find within the manual the section that describes how to change the tone.

I did find the section for “Distinctive Ringing”, but this appears to be directed for incoming calls. There is a lot of internal communication within the office, so we hear the same tone for each phone. It would help to determine from which phone it is generating?

You can't tell what phone is calling you other than seeing it in your display.

Would the feature group paging be an answer to this internal group "Sales" of people? You could set all of them, and only them, up in a paging group and wheneverr they did hear a page then they would know it was a Sales Group call?
There is also the option of building a MCG for all the sales people and have the call transferred to the MCG.
I would say that your problem is more of a training issue that needs to be overcome.

Also you can not change the tone that is sent when a page is initiated, options are the tone or no tone.

Hello,

Once again, I have encountered complaints regarding the paging from the phone intercom.

Is there any solution to this problem???

I mentioned the problem before, when you are in a room were a page can arrive at any of a dozen phones, it would be nice to distinguish which phone to actually pick-up? There are times when users are attempting to determine which desk the sound is originating.

I have used other systems that have allowed me to select from a few different "sounds" and helps tremendously in this scenario. However, on my Toshiba system I get lost in the semantics of is this a "page" or a "ring"? It would be nice just to change it?

I don't know if it is just me, but I am still not 100% sure which tone you want to change. When I read:

"it would be nice to distinguish which phone to actually pick-up? There are times when users are attempting to determine which desk the sound is originating"

It sounds to me like the phone is ringing. A Page, as most people would discribe it, would involve 1 Beep as a splach (warning) tone, then the person that is making the page would start to speak. This person talking would be heard through the phones speakers. I could be reading too much into this, as people do pickup the phone even with a hands free intercom call.

So to break it down:
-Calls from an outside line ringing the phone: yes you can change the tones.
-Intercom calls from another extension that ring the phone: yes there are a couple of ring types, different then the outside caller ring tones.
-Voice intercom, where a singe "splash Tone" is heard, then the caller talks over the phone: No. That one beep is not a ring tone
-Paging, where a caller is making an annoucement to many phones, or overhead speakers, at the same time: No, that splash tone is not customizable, same as the voice intercom.
