I do IT work and one of my clients has an ESI-200 for which I'm a decision maker.

They have a remote office with an ESI-100. Both offices are served by SIP trunks, and the two offices have ESILink connections between the two.

The remote office isn't very far away and is now on our LAN via high-speed Ubiquiti wireless bridges. Working great for a couple of years now.

Many of the people that were once in that remote office have moved to the main office. So it was my intention to replace their phones with remote phones running off the ESI-200 at the main office, and to pull the ESI-100 and kill the remote offices internet circuit (to save money).

The chassis of the ESI-200 is full of cards, and we need to upgrade to handle more remote IP phones (they already have other remote offices running remote phones). So I figured we'd replace the 12R12EL card (which is in slot #2) with a 24R card.

The phone vendor is telling me this could take 4-8 hours (or possibly more) because all the cards after slot #2 will need to be reprogrammed.

I'm not familiar with the workings of ESI gear, does that seem reasonable? I know some older phone systems can be a bear to program, I've seen others where this would be very simple.

The phone provider is suggesting we replace an analog card in slot #6 because I only have a single phone (conference room unit) on that card and the programming would be far simpler. I think it may ultimately reduce the degree to which we can upgrade later-on, though, without having to go to an expansion chassis.

TIA for all input.

That is silly. Four hours for everything is a about right in my book.
