What's up guys!

Is there anyway to set up the IP phone using DSL internet service? We've heard both yes and no. We're looking for the deciding vote. it'd be used with a regular Linksys router. Thanks ,all!

You absolutely can use DSL and you absolutely can use a cheap broadband router. I cannot promise stellar quality but for general use you will be good to go. Make sure that you config your Inter-Tel switch for Auto or NAT for the endpoint or it will not work properly (one way or no audio).

Thanks, Chris!!! I definitely trust your answer! I'd rarely use it, but in the case if I have to take orders for my company on a random Sunday, it'll come in handy. I hooked it up yesterday, and it kept saying "Local IP Addr Invalid." Any idea what that means? Also, how do I find my TFTP Server URL? Thanks for the quick reply again. What a great service this site provides!!

I currently have 6 IP phones and one IPSLA working through commercial broadbands (two cable modem, one Verizon Fios) and they work fine.

You will need to have a set of ports setup in your firewall and translated (NAT) to a public IP address. You will need to put the public IP address in the phone you are using remotely so it can find the switch.

The list of ports I have NAT and firewall rules for are:

UDP 6004-8000 (this is not what the book says, but it is what I have, currently)
UDP 5566-5567
TCP 5566-5567
UDP 5000-5064
TCP 4000

This list allows me to not only have remote phones, but to do remote admin on the switch as well.

Follow ClayGoss' recomendations and you will be gold. Make sure that your endpoint config in the intertel switch is set for auto or NAT otherwise it wont work.
