I asked this one way before, now I will try something else.

Our Axxess System has, over almost 15 years that I know of, grown from 2 cabinets and 70ish users, to 4 cabinets at our primary home location, 270ish users, with 3 additional remote nodes and about 20 remote IP endpoints.

We have now about 190 'applications' - CRAs, STARS, etc.

We have also changed Inter-Tel vendors, then the mess was dumped on me.

With what should be needless to say, with maybe 10 people over 15 years changing this thing, esp. the STARs and CRAs, there are 'dead bodies' all over the place - applications that go nowhere and do nothing, mixed in with active apps.

It there any way to 'dump' the DB to a file or utility to cross-reference CRAs/STARs/etc. so I can strip out the deadwood more safely than CUT and PRAY?

I have a similar problem. The last 8 years, but I can only blame myself. :shrug: I wish the Report Programming had reports for this sort of thing.

If you have a call accounting / tracking software, maybe it will let you run reports on the CRA extensions. If you don't see any activity during the past 3 months, it should be safe to delete.

If you have to go through it via DB Programming, do so in local mode, so things go a little quicker. Once you have a complete list, you can make the changes live, or do a restore of the updated local DB when the system can be offline for a bit.

The last I worked with Inter-Tel they had no such software, don’t know about now.

I don’t know what it would take to create a program that could dissect the saved database of an Inter-Tel system and put it in such a format. I do however understand what your talking about as I see this just about every time I take on a new customer.

We are doing the same thing right now. Cutting out unused CRA's from our Applications.
Two ways we are handling this. One, we always back up the database before we go 'hunting'. That way, anything we delete, if it shows up as actually being used, the database can be restored and we try again.
Second, we have Call Report software and use it for this as bg6214 mentioned. We run a report for the past month or so, and if the application shows no activity, we delete it.

Not sure this directly helps with the posted issue but just FYI...

On my AXXESS system, when I run DB Studio the PBX configuration database is placed into a new Microsoft Access file in %program files%\InterTel\Sessions

You must make a copy of this Access file, for as soon as you exit DB Studio it gets deleted.

You can then open in MS Access and create your own queries, reports, examine tables, relationships, whatever. I would not consider trying to then upload any modifications you made back to AXXESS if it is even possible but it is certainly a good method to do some analysis at a level DB Studio won't offer.

I have found that you must view through DB Studio the specific area(s) of programming you are interested in for that data to be put into the Access DB file. In other words the Access DB file isn't fully populated at once, it populates as you view data in DB Studio.

Note, a backup is a complete dump of the access database wrapped in a zip archive and renamed .axx instead...

You can run a copy of the database through DB Test. It will tell you of unused applications and other anomalies.
