We have a 5400 with UM - all with current patches. We have installed the v1.0.3 fax client on Windows XP workstations. It seems to work fine - had a little trouble with the LD codes as the doc says to use a comma for the pause, but it must be a P.

I have tested how many properly formatted fax numbers it can handle in the "Recipients:" field and found it to be ~1,500. We would like to test it for doing a bulk faxing, which we currently do with an outside service ($$).

So, I would appreciate any words of advise you might have - testimonials of your experiences - etc.

I also have a couple of questions. Once a bunch of faxes have been cued, is there a way to monitor their progress - other than the emails the system sends out? Since this is a first trial, we do not know how it is going to impact the system - if things appear to be going bad, is there a way to kill the batch?

Any help appreciated. Have a great weekend!

The UM Fax server was never meant for bulk faxing. IMO, you are asking for headaches in trying to force it to be something it was not intended for.

So, how many faxes per hour/day/whatever was it "intended for"? In the world of "bulk faxing", our needs seem modest, but I need something to take to management to tell them "forgetaboutit". And if, oh say, 500 faxes per 24 hours is too much for this system, what might you suggest as an alternative?

Well, I ran a test of 100 faxes over the weekend. Now I know why folks say "[it] was never ment for bulk faxing." And the reason is the arbitrary 10 minute retry timer. If it had been done as a random delay of 30 to 600 seconds, the capacity of the system would have gone way up.

Of course, individual summissions of faxes by individuals is "random" so this is not so much a factor.

Ok, I have a question. We have abandoned the idea of using the 5400 as a "bulk fax" server. But we have deployed the fax client to a number of users. If a user reports an issue, what tools are available to monitor the server? Is there a mechanism to manipulate the fax queue?
