Not saying it couldn't happen but I've never seen the need for nail plates with steel studs. The 1-1/4" rule still applies but there is always a way to easily re-route a cable to avoid those situations where you can't maintain it.

If you need those things you're talking about, and can't find them under "grommet" that's because they aren't grommets. They're bushings.

That's why I put grommets in quotes.

I use Arlington brand snap-in bushings on the top of studs, inside panels, etc. 1/2 or 3/4 inch most commonly found at the supply houses. Have also used the red stud bushings to go between stud bays.

I use these whenever pulling cable through metal studs ![[Linked Image from images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com]](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41kKiJZVcBL._US500_.jpg) I like to use these when I have to enter or exit drywall when a box isn't required and it's about a drop ceiling. ![[Linked Image from cableorganizer.com]](https://www.cableorganizer.com/images/articles/grommets-bushings-snap-snub/pvc-grommets.jpg) These are all called gromments too
