They are 3 digits. I know this to be accurate because when I press Feature 00 it tells me what extension I am operating from.

There are 7 unused ports on one of the ETR cards. By default they are 4 digit. Example: 7128

The operating extensions are 3 digit, I can pick up a random phone and dial 235 and it will ring ext 235. I can go to 235 and press Feature 00 and it will display "program ext 235" or something very similar.

Your description of the failure doesn't make sense - you're doing it right, going into programming with Feature 00, selecting an unused button with a light next to it, dialing *22 to indicate an Inside Auto Dial, the then the Extension Number.

As long as it's a valid extension number, it should "take".

There may be something on the buttons that an autodial won't over write like a line or pool button or possibly a Headset button.

Also keep in mind the 4 buttons under the screen are not programmable. The MLS's don't have the extra 4 buttons but the Partner style phones do.

Bear in mind that the buttons change from the horizontal orientation used on the Partner to the vertical orientation used on the Magix. This can be confusing if you are thinking of the Partner setup.
