We have three lines on our office phone. I cannot get the third line to disconnect. All of the phones in the office are hung up so that isn't it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Is this a Partner system? When the line is not disconnected how do you know, do the buttons remain lit for that line on all phones or is it that you go to use the line and get no dialtone? How is this happening, does it remain in use after someone has hung up or does this just do it by itself?

Hi Hal, Just read your response. Yes it is a Partner 18D. When we hang up from a call the light generally goes out but not this time. When I pick up the line there is nothing, no dail tone or anything, just silence. I tried to put it on hold to disconnect it from there but it does not respond to anything.

Is there a red light on all phones when this happens? Red would indicate that the line is in use somewhere other than the phone you are looking at. Green would be the phone that is off hook. So, when you hang up does the light stay green?

Yes, we checked all the phones. The light is green at my extension and red everywhere else. I have picked it up and hung it back up so many times but it still stays green.

The problem is definitely in your phone if it stays green on yours, but red everywhere else. Try swapping phones with another one temporarily to see if the problem follows the phone or if it's in your station port.

Nahh, it's the phone. Common problem, I see it all the time. Crummy hookswitches. Replace the phone gto.

My boss is going to love that. Do you think if I called our local phone company they could break the connection if there is one? As it is now we only have use of two lines, which actually makes my job easier...maybe I can leave it that way...

Have you tried putting it on hold and picking it up at another station, then hanging up at that station? Even if the hookswitch is shot, that should work.
