Hi Folks & Merry Christmas I am looking for a bit of info I normaly work telrad and panasonic switches but my younger brother is trying to work from home to office avaya switch and cant connect with softphone over a 2mb dsl This works fine in the office when he powers up the notebook his office extn is tranferred to his notebook and works ok but at home even when connected to the network we get no speech we get ringing but answer and no speech. On the telrad this is usualy that the firewall /router is blocking traffic incoming does anybody know which ports/protocals so that i can check tcp/udp going to the notebook ip address Thanks in advance jd

If you are getting only one way voice, it sounds like a UDP port isn't open correctly. The user should be able to get his hands on a firewall.Bat file, which would open all required ports. Sometimes even by disabling windows firewall, it wont let certain ports out.

Thanks for the reply Unfortunatly we are not getting any speech at all not even one way. When we dial out from the softphone to a mobile it rings but no speech The windows firewall is disabled on the pc. Also the firewall on the router is disabled for testing but i know from previous experiance that sometimes if you do not set up port forwarding in the router the packets arnt sent on to the right pc. does anybody know what ports and what range should be forwarded. thanks again jd

The voice uses UDP and the codec set has to be set in the pbx based on what you choose for your connection type in the softphone. DSL will require 729. The ports are dynamic based on the range in the ip-network-region.

First thing is to check what IP network region that your medpro is in. Then display that region and find your audio port parameters min and max. Then make sure these ports are opened (all udp) on your firewall. Also note what your codec is set to on the network region. Then display that network region and note the codecs used.
Now on the softphone application, set the bandwidth setting to the approiate codec. LAN for G.711 or DSL/Cable for G.729. Then select settings and advanced. Check the local port range information and enter your lowest and highest port range.
