What is the recommended sequence for powering down a new 2-cabinet Definity system? The "highly trained" Avaya techs that installed it neglected to put any power protection or UPS on it. Can I just save translations and pull the plug from the main cabinet, then the second cabinet, and power up in reverse order?

Need more info. Is this an S seriers processor? If so, what gateway? Or are you working on a legacy product like the G3R, G3si, G3csi?

It's a G3 series, two large blue boxes on the wall. I don't have the model number with me.

That is a csi, aka prologix. The csi could have an S seriers processor and if that is the case these instructions are not correct.
Run a 'save trans'. If there is an annoucment board run a 'save ann'. If there is a VAL board, backup annoucments to your PC, via VAL manager. Pull the power supply on the A carrier. Pull the power supply on the B carrier. Power on is reverse. B on first. A on second.
Do not use a power strip on this PBX. A UPS is fine, but not a power strip.

Do not use a power strip on this PBX.
I assume because many power strips have a on-off switch or otherwise make it easy to inadvertently interrupt power to the PBX?
