I'm trying to use PC Admin 7.009 with a Partner ACS R6.0 and backup/remote access PCMCIA card (in slot 1). Password has been created, saved and verified at ext.11, and when I attempt a direct extension connection I get prompted for the password but then it either tells me "incorrect password," says I'm disconnected or just gets hung forcing an end task on the software to start over. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 6000 with WinXP Pro. I hear the modem connect, train and synch prior to the password prompt. It connects at 14400, if I force the modem to, say, 9600 would it help? Ran out of time to try too many things with it today.

My primary goal is to create a backup of the system since I've been unable to create one to the PC card (it indicates the backup is successful but when I look at the restore prog it shows ****** indicating no backup data in either auto or manual), but it looks like if it worked (PC programming, that is) this would also make much of the programming a lot less tedious (CATFISH = 23 21 81 33 43 74 42, sheesh). And remote programming is always a bonus.

In searching for similar posts here I learned the backup/remote card is touchy about modems it will connect with. So, if anyone has any tips I'd appreciate it. Short of that any external modems you are using that work would also be appreciated.

I assume you are useing a silver back-up/ restore / remote access card?
Not the green back-up/ restore only card.
And you set the ext port that you are direct connecting your PC to pick up icom dial tone then entering the correct ext to access the modem in the PC card?

What bothers me about this is you saying that if you do a #124 and back-up comes back succesful. That you can't go back and see the back-up in #125?

If this is the case then it sounds like you may have a bad back-up/ restore/ remote access card. But I have only seen a couple of bad back-up cards in my time and both of them had been in a lighting strike.

It's a green BU-R/RA card. And yes, #124 responds as successful, #125 shows no backups available. And also yes, I'm setting the ext port to pickup i-com tone and entering the correct extension. I hear it connect, then get a prompt for the password, which as far as I get.

Green card a problem? I was figuring there was a problem with the card with respect to the backup/restore issue, but since I know I'm connecting with the PC I'm not sure why the connection won't complete. I could back up that way, the config at that site rarely changes (but the staff sure does!).

I think the last time we had a lightning strike around here was around 1890 laugh Just never happens. Now power, on the other hand....

I think I'll get a silver card and see what happens. Didn't know there were different cards, the card came with the R3 processor about a million years ago, didn't come with the (new) R6 I installed last week (but the yellow sheet in the packaging gave me a part number for that card).

Thanks for the reply!

I'm pretty sure the green cards are back-up/ restore only............no remote access.

That could be part of your problem. But the thing that still kicks me is why you can't see your back-up's in #125.

Let me know and I will help anyway I can.

The green card says "Backup/Remote Access" on it (or some similar verbiage, which was why I tried it), and I hear the modem training and synch. PC says I'm connected. Calling the modem extension from another extension gets modem tone as well. Let's say I pull the card, would I still get modem tone at the modem extension? Got me why the backup doesn't work, tried it about 10 times manually, then set the system to auto backups and checked again yesterday. No backups available. That will have to be corrected. And at $3.40+/gal I'm trying to update the systems I support to allow remote access, so the combo card is a pretty slick solution. Thanks again.

I have a Dell Latitude C840 and have never had any problems useing the remote access with Partners or Magix's. So I'm thinking bad PCMCIA card. Do you have another one you can try?

I double checked and no...............the green cards are not remote access.

Back-up/ restore only.

I'll take a pic of the card when I get back out there or when I replace it (assuming they'll buy a replacement, they're kinda cheap). Maybe it was silver (could have sworn it was a teal color), but it does say remote access. Regardless, it *should* do a backup so it should be replaced. Don't have another one to test with, I don't work on Partner systems very often so don't have much in the way of spares. That seems to be changing, picked up two new customers in the past 4 weeks or so with Partner systems. Again, thanks!
