We have a few 5x9's installed at gas stations, nothing big at all. But I've never seen such odd gliches and programming issues. I know I've seen a few people on here 'talk down' about these.... can some1 point me in the right direction, I can't find it. thanks

I have an R7 at home and it has been flawless. Having said that....the sheer number of reports of processors with various problems really drives home the point that the R7 was released for sale before it was ready.

I have watched other users on the boards trash the R7. I have installed them from the get go and the only thing remotely troubling, was trying to get Partner Mail VS working.

I upgraded a customer from R1.0 to R7 a few months ago and was not able to use restore feature (backed up ok, but R7 didn't recognize the backup)...so I spent the next couple of hours WRITING down all their programming and configurations for voice mail, private lines and specific ringing actions, and etc, and then reprogramming everything into the R7. My supplier says that if I would have upgraded to an R6 instead, I would've been able to do backup and restore, been in and out, and on my way to the beach in no time at all.

Tel the sky - Partner has NEVER supported backup from version X and restore to version Y. If you had kept the same processor and flashed it to newest version, it would have updated your configs as appropriate. If we do an upgrade like this, we simply make the new system run beside old and go step by step thru config, looking at old processor and programming new. Mike

It depends on how "fancy" you get. The major problem was its losing it's programming on power failure and that has been worked around (notice I didn't say fixed). So, if you are only going to use it for a simple system, basic call handling and no VM it should work without a hitch.
I really don't see what the attraction is to the R7 anyway, after all the R6 offers the same feature set. Ok, it saves part of the cost of a carrier and a 308 if someone needs four or five lines and an extra extension on the system. Big deal.
It seems most of the people who have bought or try to sell the R7 do so only because they think that the R7 is the latest release and are not familiar with it's shortcomings. Matter of fact that works to my advantage. When I give a quote and I see a competitor specs an R7 I can tell the customer with certainty that the competitor doesn't know what he is talking about and probably isn't in the business because he apparently doesn't know about the bugs and the R6 being offered concurrently.
I have yet to sell an R7 and I really see no reason to do so as long as the R6 is being offered. It does exactly the same thing without the worry and provides a better value to my customers.

I have installed several of the R7's and have had several fail. One System at the same site has failed 3 times. Line protection, UPS Grounded. Just fails. Would not advise the R7.

I install a couple of R7's a week. Since the memory problem has been addressed, and even improved with the CID time synch, I'm very pleased. I have seen few actual hardware failures, and do not hesitate to recommend it.

Thanks alot guys! I didn't want to go into to much detail about my current problem with the R7. It is a gas station/co-op and does have vm for sales, and 5x9(4x9)was perfect. It did 'suffer' a power outage and only retained a few random buttons and the auto att. greeting, no pvm though. We have many R6 and earlier in the area and none of them had any issues. I needed a good reason to go back to the R6 and I found it.. Thanks again.

Tommy has more experience with this this than any of us and I would certainly take his word on this. It could be, if you are having issues, that there is a lot of old stock out there on the gray market that is being sold and hasn't had the bugs resolved.
