Hello,

I know my profile says that I'm a Toshiba owner, but my boss has a Lucent system at her house.

My question is: what wireless phones would be able to access other lines? The system says that TransTalk phones are optional accessories, but I'm wondering if there is a cheaper solution...

Any analog cordless will plug into an AUX port on the back of her phones (if correct model) OR directly into a spare port on the system.

That assumes of course that she has a Partner.

The Transtalks were for Merlin, Legend and Definity too. (Does she have a REALLY big house with a Definity? smile )

Transtalks have been discontinued but they are available on the refurb/used market. Depending on the system and configuration you may be able to use any regular single line cordless but with some degree of difficulty in handling calls that you won't have with a Transtalk.

If she has a Partner and can get away with only two lines on the cordless, the Avaya 3910 is currently available new for much less money than a used or refurb Transtalk.

Yes, it's a Partner Endeavor.

If the phone needs to be able to access both lines, would you recommend the Avaya?

Yes, it's a Partner Endeavor.

Ouch. That means that if you go with a single line cordless and you want it to ring you can only connect it to one of the last two ports on a module. Example would be extensions 16 and 17 on the processor.

If the phone needs to be able to access both lines, would you recommend the Avaya?

I would. Though it may not have the range of some other single line cordlesses it does provide illuminated line appearances, intercom, hold and the other function buttons like on a desk phone. That's what you need to be able to handle calls with more than one line.

Keep in mind that you can handle calls with a single line phone but it is very difficult. Also you are going to have the extension restriction I talked about above because you are working with an Endeavor.

The Endeavor, Gray Bar sold them for a short time.

If it's only two lines then it should easy to handle both lines on a single cordless. Often this is not the case.

The biggest problem is just that.

Try a two line cordless and assign each line to each port.

I can't stress enough on how to use any single line phone with any Partner.

It becomes a waste of my time with the customer.

People are stupid. But I bet a blind person could figure it out.

You guys making a big deal out of using a single line phone. It comes to the point of teaching end user to use a Hook flash or Flash button. Two line phone is a pain in the b.... two different extension? They confuse already when you trying to tell them that it's a two internal numbers. They can't comprehend it.

I once installed a Partner for a customer who already had a 2 line cordless. After discussing a few options, he settled on Intercom First on Button 1(Ext.A), Line First on Button 2(Ext.B).
