I would contact an Avaya Business Partner in your area.

Sure. I have nothing to gain. I don't sell anything other then my time.

How many phones do you currently have? Are you going to replace the digital phones with IP phones day 1 or are you going to reuse your digital phones on your new PBX?

Thank you for your response. I hope you didn't take the "nothing to gain" as an insult. I didn't intend for it to be taken that way and I do appreciate your help. In respect to your question,
no we aren't going to replace all our digital phones on day one but probably will over an extended period of time. Right now we have around 300 phones on our g3. The following is a list of hardware that has been quoted for instillation but no one seems to know whether or not it can be used with any of the MS UC server stuff.

MEDPRO TN2302
C_LAN TN799DP
DS1 TN464F
120 CSU with Cable

No I didn't. I'm just saying that I don't sell anything other then time. Anyway back to the topic at hand. The first thing that you must do is make sure that the company you are purchasing this from is an Avaya Business Partner. If you are unsure check here:

https://mywebtools.avaya.com/bplocator/start.swe?SWECmd=Start

Next, TN2302's are no longer sold as the TN2602 has more capacity but costs a lot more. So that is most likely a refurb. If they are claiming that is new, I would question it.

Next. Adding a medpro and a Clan will IP enable your PBX on a R9. But your not going to get much. Avaya and IP phones were very new back then. Most things didn't work well and what did wasn't great. I would suggest that you upgrade your software and hardware. What that means is you will replace your current cabinet with G650's. These are rack mounted cabinets that will support your TN boards from your current G3. You will upgrade your processor to either 1 S8500 or 2 S8730's depending on how redundant you want to be. You will also need to upgrade your software to Communication Manager CM5.X.

What I'm getting at here is that your not going to be real happy by IP enabling your R9.

I would assume that you are adding a ISDN PRI, hence the DS1 and CSU.

In reference to MS UC, forget about it. If you want a high end voice mail, purchase Avaya Modular Messaging.

Thank you for taking the time to discuss this with me. The main reason for wanting to use our G3 was to keep our cost to a minimum until we can afford to do major upgrades to our hardware, which you have suggested as well. Plus we would get the benefit of experience with the technology. The microsoft uc stuff was of interest to us because of how it integrates with our exchange server and other ms products we use here at our facility. It would not surprise me to find out that avaya probably has plugins to allow it to do the same thing but having been down that road before we're a little gun shy. You've given me a great deal to think about. Thank you help.

Modular Messaging can intergrate with Exchange. You can store your voice mail messages on the exchange if you want. Or you can store them on an Avaya MSS Server. Either will work.

With regards to your R9 and IP. You'll also need to upgrade your G3 backplane for the 2 slots that the clan and medpro will go. Otherwise you'll have trouble running 100/full.

I did some reading about the modular messaging stuff. I like it, especially the fact that it will run on off the shelf hardware. Propriatary configurations and hardware are really a bad rub.
Do you have any idea what a ballpark cost/seat runs for that. Also it seemed like one doc I saw at Avaya was saying that all the Avaya UCC package would intagrate with a G3. I hope I'm not taking up too much of your time. An informal discussion about stuff like this is rare and especially when it envolves an obvious green wennie like me. Thanks for your help.

We can't discuss pricing in the forum. But it's major dollars. It also depends on the number of mailboxes you need as there is a RTU charge for each one. If I remember correctly the minimum version of G3 is R10. You'll most likely need to upgrade the PBX as well for MM to work.
