I have a customer who has a ACS 3.0 that burned out. I'm replacing the ACS with a new ACS 8.0. The old ACS has a beckup restore card. Can I restore the programming to the new ACS id the card is still good? This would save alot of time. Thanks for any help!

I have not done this yet, but I believe that you could accomplish this upgrade without reprogramming. If you had a R6 processor, restore your translations to it. Then there is a process to convert the R6 translations to R7 or R8. This is something that is new and would probably be just as easy to reprogram from scratch if the system is not too large.

R8 can have programming converted from an R7, but you cant do that from an R6,......Different hardware...

You will have to reprogram the system.

You can take a R.6 translation and push it to a R.8.

Michaelq, if your ole R.3 has any life left in it at all to where you could flash it to a R.6 then do a back up to the PC card. You can then take that translation and push it to the R.8.

Had to do this a couple of weeks ago, it works great.

Thanks for clarifying the details for them Mike. I knew there was a process but have not had the chance to do it yet.

Well the old ACS is totally dead. It started to spark when connecting it straight to the power cord. It also took the cabinet with it. I plugged the 2 3x8 cards directly to the power cable and the power LED was green. So hopelully they are still good. I will install the new ACS and cabinet and program from scratch. Can I use the old back up restore card with the ACS 8.0 to back it up after programming? Thanks for the info.

Update, Installed the new equipment and reprogrammed it. Backed up the phone system programming and all is good!
