I am unable to change an R4 to Hybrid/PBX mode.
I can select Behind Switch but not Hybrid.
What am I missing?
Thanks

It may be strapped for "Permanant Key" mode. There is a set of dip switches that prevents you from going into Hybrid mode. Without a processor in front of me, I can't tell you which ones they are, but should be shown in the Maintenance manual. Maybe Jack or Tim will jump in.

Permanent Key Mode on a CKE5? (not questioning, but asking). I guess the old saying is true. Something new everyday..

Hmm...
I did a search on "permanent key mode" at the Avaya support site. According to what I found, this is a feature for Legend 6.1, not Magix. (Well, no documents were listed as Magix.)
Could this be an undocumented option on the Magix processors?
Or is there something else I need to be looking for?

Yup - just looked at a processor at the office. At the top of the card edge connector you will find 2 dip switches. Make sure they are away from the board. If they are both towards the card, flip them the other way.

CKE5 just refers to the amount of on board memory.

Remember the days of having to report the FCC Registration Number and Ringer Equiv. Number to the phone company when connecting your own equipment? The registration number ended with KF for Key systems, MF for for PBX/Hybrid. Tariffs specified higher rates for trunks connected to MF systems vs lines connected to KF systems. The phone company had the right to inspect your equipment, and if found operating in the PBX mode, charge you for the higher priced trunks.

Update:
Don't know how or why...
Got a second processor and compared it to the problem processor. All the jumpers and dip switches were in identical positions.
The second processor was able to be put in Hybrid\PBX mode.

The dip switches were towards the board.
Either the first board was correct, or the second board had faulty switches.
I didn't see your post until after I put the new board in. Since this was a sub-contract job, I don't have the processor to test.

And yes, I do remember those days. Once I had an argument with a Pacific Telephone rep about a MF registration for a Parnter system. She swore there was no such system. She was so insistant, I just said to use the KF number. Fun days...
