Hi,
I updated my Merlin Legend to Merlin Magix R4 and the default Merlin Magix processor password is not working when I use Winspm. I am able to connect and then it asks for the password and when I enter the default password since I do not know the password the Winspm freezes up. Now I am able to connect and program the Merlin Legend but not the Merlin Magix. I do have the modem speed at 2400 and even tried at 1200 and I have Winspm 6.0. Any ideas on how to get in to program it or if I can reset it on the processor board?
Thank you Brian

6.0 is an older version of WinSPM.
Now that the processor has been changed from a Legend to an R4 Magix, consider updating your copy of WinSPM to 9.0 (the final release).
The patches are available on Avaya's website.
(A quick side note): If there were any ATL sets in use with the Legend processor, they won't be able to be carried over to the Magix. That will also hold true for a small number of Legend expansion modules.

It's definitely NOT a modem problem nor a WinSPM release conflict. Dexman may have very well nailed it with his point about ATL sets/boards in the mix. Of course, it could also be something as simple as you having the CAPS LOCK key on.
Call or PM me tomorrow if you're still stuck.

If you can connect with your Laptop/PC through a serial port, the next step would be to do a PRINT of your SYSTEM SETUP.
The answer should be obvious once you do that.

When R4 first came out, I was unable to connect, even through the serial port, until I patched up to R9 WinSPM - I'd really do those and try again!

You can't use Win SPM6 on a Magix R4. You need WinSPM 9 like everyone is saying. I have link if you need to download it.

Though I've never heard of problems connecting to MAGIX R4.0 with older versions of WinSPM, I DO have a tremendous amount of faith in Tom's experience and posts...so go for it. I've got WinSPM 9.0 hosted here . Please let us know whether using the updated WinSPM software fixes the issue or not.

For those of us who still use SPM Dos...it works just fine with all the Magix releases. There are a few things you can't do with the Dos version...but can do a backup.
