I am setting up a new callpilot 100 with a Norstar MICS, and I can't connect to it over ethernet. All 5 indicator led's are lit continuously after it gets going, and I have initialized it using a phone, but I still can't connect to it using a web browser. I have been trying to connect to the default IP address which is 192.168.110.10, and I always get the error "The connection was refused when attempting to connect to 192.168.110.10" in firefox, and "page cannot be displayed" in internet explorer. I have tried with and without the "https://". I am using a netgear router, but have also tried a crossover cable to connect directly with my laptop. I am using versiono 6 of internet explorer, which is listed as compatible in the manual, and 1.0.4 firefox.

Does anyone know why I am having this trouble?

Thanks,
Nate

Don't know why, but I have always had trouble conneting using the default IP and ended up hooking up to the serial port to change the IP. Also make sure you are in the same subnet.

Can you ping that IP address on the network to make sure it is alive?

Ping got no response. It looks like I'll have to try to dig up a serial cable.

I configured it over the serial port and now it works over the network. I must criticize Nortel for the wording of the manual which implies that it should work without this, but I guess it wasn't meant for first timers anyway.

Thanks
Nate

It does work the way the manual says. Many installed that way.

The manual says you need to use the serial port of the IP address is incompatible with the network. I think the IP is fine, and that it's the other settings, subnet mask and/or gateway IP that make it not work.

Just to confirm what RBF said, these things connect just fine out of the box. Just make sure your PC address is 192.168.110.XXX with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.000

Toner, RBF, I agree, they do work fine when they come out of a FACTORY box. This one came from eBay. Perhaps that has something to do with it. [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

How do you set the ip in your browser if your browser can't communicate with it?

See toners post above
sqekgeak- what is your question? Are you asking how to change a computers IP address? That is all it takes to talk to the CP.

ARGHHHH...........How can a worldwide telecom company produce a product, have it installed by many legitimate companies and yet have a novice complain about not understanding the installing principles be given credibility? His previous posts show the inability to install the correct color code for tip and ring, the tying down of power cords to the backboard in violation of CSA/UL codes per install manual as well as various other accepted install errors and yet....nevermind. Goodnight.

Tip & Ring aren't obsolete. You'd better not ignore it for too long, many systems are polarity sensitive. (Including Nortel's M1 and Centrex lines)

Sqeaky, I think some basic knowledge of networks would have fixed your trouble. As toner stated above you have to be in the same address range as the device you are trying to connect to. Computers are default configured to accept an address given to them by a router or server. The callpilot does not have the ability to assign you an address therefore you must set that address yourself through the network settings of your computer. gateways and subnets are not important here as long as you are in the same ip range.

Yes, the first three segments of the IP need to match, that is what threw me. The other things you mentioned I knew. I was wrong about the manual.

you can access the Callpilot using PC through RS232 port to check and change all parameters, including setting LAN port on or off ,IP address subnet marks and so on.

I did that almost a week ago and reported that it was working fine. I'm not sure why this thread is still going.
